Rambles of an Artist: Painting, Teaching, Reflecting

Updated: Oct 19

I have been an artist and an art teacher for nearly three decades.

I have dedicated a great deal of my life to creativity. From the first brushstroke on canvas to guiding students through their artistic quests, my journey has been fulfilling. Yet, even though I have had a personal blog for many years, what I haven't done is, creating an art blog. This will be a space to share my opinions, experiences, and passion for art. It will be a way for me to tell stories, share techniques, and provide insights that could inspire others to embark on their own artistic journeys.

What to Expect

You can anticipate a variety of content from my blog based on my experiences as an artist and teacher. Here are a few of the topics I'll explore:

  1. Art History and Women Artists: I will dive into significant artwork created by women and the stories behind famous but unrecognized women artists.

Women artists have been marginalised and misrepresented throughout history. This has often been due to socio-political mores of the given era. I will examine the issues that lie behind this marginalisation and introduce you to women artists.

  2. Personal Stories and Reflections: I will no doubt be sharing my artistic challenges and triumphs. Will any artist ever truly be able to say they have never been frustrated by their artwork?

  3. Interviews with Other Artists: Featuring insights from fellow artists will enrich the blog. My first interviews will be with some of my studio colleagues, who transformed a dull space into a vibrant community hub, showcasing the power of art in public spaces.

The Role of Art in Our Lives

Art holds incredible power. It can transform emotions, provoke thoughts, and inspire actions. Throughout my career, I have witnessed the profound impact that art has on individuals and communities. Through this blog, I hope to highlight the ways art enriches our lives and fosters a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world.

The Importance of Community

Collaboration is a vital force driving innovation, inspiration, and progress between artists. At the heart of successful artistic collaboration lies the concept of community—a collective spirit that not only fosters creativity but also provides emotional, intellectual, and practical support.

The sense of belonging within a community empowers artists to share ideas, challenge boundaries, and learn from one another. It has always been like this, nothing new here.

Embracing Change

Change can be scary but also a compelling opportunity for growth. We are living in an age of unprecedented technological advancement, where digital tools and artificial intelligence (A.I.) are reshaping every aspect of our lives, from the way we work and communicate to how we learn and interact with the world. In this context, embracing change is not just an option—it is a necessity for individuals, organisations, and society as a whole. Whether you like it or not.

Final Thoughts

Launching an art blog after 30 years in the field is both challenging and exhilarating. It opens doors to share my love for art, connect with fellow creatives, and foster community. I invite you to join me on this exploration of art. Whether you're an artist, teacher, learner or an art enthusiast, I hope this blog will inspire you and connect us all.

Thank you for being a part of this exciting journey.
